With the induction of the National Health Insurance Scheme in Nigeria, Clearline HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) began operations in 1997 to serve Nigerians as a means for affordable healthcare. With a network of over 2000 hospitals nationwide, their goal is to provide service wherever one may be.
To do this efficiently, Clearline HMO provides different products/plans to satisfy the needs of individuals, groups, families, corporations and public sectors.
In this article, we will review their family/individual policy and corporate plans.
Family/Individual Policy
This plan is suitable for either families or individuals who are self-employed but need affordable coverage. They split the benefits packages between “Gold” and “Silver”. Benefits covered under the Gold plan but not the Silver plans are:
- Advanced Radiological Investigations (CT scan & MRI)
- Additional Immunizations for 0-5yrs (e.g. HIB, MMR, Pneumococcal)
- Intensive care services
- Infertility Services (SFA, HSG, Hormonal Profile)
- Dental surgical extraction, Composite filling, Scaling & polishing
- HIV/AIDS care & treatment
- Cancer care, Oncology tests, Drugs, chemotherapy & radiotherapy (with limits)
- Kidney care
There are some services offered under both plans but have certain limits. Those services are:
- Accommodation
- Gold plan: Private ward
- Silver plan: Semi-private ward
- Eye Surgery
- Silver plan: Cataract and Glaucoma excluded.
- Gold plan: Glaucoma excluded
- Basic Eye Care (inclusive of eyeglasses or contact lenses)
- Silver plan: up to N7500
- Gold plan: up to N10,000
- Cancer Care: Diagnostics only under the Gold plan
- Kidney care: Up to N150,000 under the Gold plan
For the best coverage, we recommend the Gold plan. However, the silver plans still offer extensive programs.
Clearline Corporate Health Policy
This policy is best suited for those who are employed as this can be part of employee benefits at the workplace.
Since the risk of coverage splits within a large group, premiums are cheaper on this plan. Under this policy, the benefits are
- Bronze (most affordable)
- Silver
- Gold
- GoldPlus
- Platinum (most expensive)
The Gold to Platinum packages offer the same benefits except for some limitations listed below:
- Eye Surgery (e.g. Glaucoma, cataract & pterygium excision)
- Gold: Glaucoma excluded
- GoldPlus: Up to N100,000 coverage for surgery
- Platinum: Up to N250,000 coverage for surgery

- Kidney care
- Gold: Care up to N150,000
- GoldPlus: Care up to N250,000

Listed below are some benefits not offered under the Bronze and Silver packages (but provided under the Gold to Platinum packages)
